Assisting Justices of the Peace in performing their judicial duties

Gordon Hunter

Gordon represents the Sheriffdom of South Strathclyde Dumfries and Galloway.

He is from an agricultural backgound and served a Scottish Agricultural Apprenticeship and obtained  City and Guilds Master Craftsman status.  He then joined Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary in 1972 and served for 30 years attaining the rank of Superintendent. He had a wide range of roles during his Police Service. He was appointed the Officer in Charge at Kamp Van Zeist, Holland for the Pan Am 103/Lockerbie trial.

Since retiral, he has been the Chairman of the Barony Agricultural College. He has also volunteered to work for SSAFA, who provide support to anyone currently serving, or has served, in the Armed Forces. He is the Secretary  of the Wigtownshire SSAFA branch.

He is further involved in other bodies, including, Chairman of the Independent Complaints Review Panel for Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council and a Panel Practice Advisor for Childrens’ Hearings Scotland. He is also a JP Appraisal Officer.
