Justices Development Committee March 2008
The Justices Development Committee met on 19 March 2008.
Members were updated on the progress of the Appraisal Design Group. They approved a letter sent by the chairman to Sheriff Crowe expressing satisfaction at the recently issued Legal Advisers’ Manual and suggesting certain amendments to future editions.
Following a brief visit by Sheriff Crowe there was lengthy discussion about the most effective way of contributing to the JSC’s task of “processing and evaluating” sheriffdom training programmes, as agreed by the Lord President.
Members also considered an example of a Bench Folder used in one court and agreed to return to the topic at the next meeting once copies had been made available. They also learned about the refusal of Legal Aid in certain circumstances in one court and decided how the matter might be progressed.
The next meeting of the group is scheduled for 7 May 2008.
