Lay Judges in Europe

In July, the SJA Chairman, Philip Murray attended a Symposium of European Lay Judges in Europe 
which was held at the European Academy in Berlin. Representatives of lay judges and Justices of the Peace from German, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Austria as well as the UK - Scotland England and Wales - attended. On the basis of the discussions during the symposium, a draft "Charter for volunteer lay involvement in jurisdiction" is being prepared. The plan is that the charter will be formally signed in London in 2011.
