Jun 02 - JPs in Scotland

The Commonwealth Magistrates and Justices Association is conducting an international survey and invited the Scottish Justices Association to respond.

This response gives a thorough review of JPs in Scotland and the legislative basis for the JP courts and Justices of the Peace and is now available via the SJA web site.  You can also download it here.

May 20 - Executive Committee

The Executive Committee met on 20th May 2010 in Edinburgh. The committee received reports of the  discussions at the SCS/SJA Liaison committee and other meetings where the association was represented. The progress of proposed SJA questionnaire of members looking at good practice in the courts was considered.

It was agreed that the AGM of the association will be held on Saturday 30th October in the

The next meeting of the SJA executive will be on Thursday 2nd September in Edinburgh.

Apr 15 - Communications Committee 15 April 2010

The SJA Communications Committee held their tenth meeting on 15 April 2010   The last and next issues of the newsletter were discussed, as was the information pack to be issued to new justices.   It was agreed to have a 6 month pilot of monthly emails to all members.

Apr 02 - 1 April 2010 changes

A special edition of the Scottish Justice which was produced in conjunction with the Scottish Court Service has now been sent out to members and other recipients of the newsletter.

The newsletter provided details of the change brought about by the Judiciary and Courts (Scotland) Act 2008 which takes effect on 1 April 2010.
